- Coffee is the world's second most traded commodity after oil
- In total it is drunk at a rate of 1,400 million cups per day
- Every year around 7 million tonnes of green coffee is harvested world wide
- An acre of coffee trees produces around 900 kilos of beans
- Each tree produces around 1 kilo of raw coffee each year for around 20 years
- The world's largest producer is Brazil and Colombia is second
- There are 100 million working in the coffee industry world wide
- Black coffee doesn't contain any calories
- Coffee grows as two green beans in a red berry
- In Japan, October 1st is officially known as 'Coffee Day'
- In Germany, they consume just over 7 kilos per person each year
- In England, the first café opened in 1662
- In 1685, Lloyds of London began life… as a café
